The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras on use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies to strengthen the legal domain.
The Apex Court and IIT Madras would collaborate on using Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies for transcription tools, summarisation of page transcript, translation tool, exclusive streaming platform for court trials, process automation and large language models for the legal domain.
The development followed the visit of the CJI to IIT Madras in July this year.
The collaboration, which would also also focus on leveraging AI tools in Capacity Building &
Training, besides creating e-Learning Platform and ICT skill development courses, would be a significant leap forward in the incorporation of AI and technology to enhance the efficiency, accessibility and capacity building of the legal domain.
The MoU aimed at facilitating the digital transformation of the Indian judiciary and aligning it with the vision for a more efficient and technologically advanced legal ecosystem to improve the access to justice.
