Supreme Court dismisses plea seeking to do away with exit polls

The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition seeking to do away with exit polls noting that it was the task of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to look into such issues, adding that the Apex Court would not run the poll body.

The Bench of Chief of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra said that since the government has already been elected, it was important to close the saga of what happened during the elections and get on with the governance in the country.

Calling it a clear case of political interest litigation, the Apex Court dismissed the petition filed by BL Jain. The petitioner tagged several poll-surveying agencies and news channels as parties in the PIL.
