The Supreme Court has designated eight retired judges of seven High Courts, including the former Acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court, as Senior Advocates.
The former judges, who have been conferred the senior gown, include Justice AM Babu, former judge, High Court of Kerala; Justice Gudiseva Shyam Prasad, former judge, High Court for the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh; Justice M Venugopal, former judge, Madras High Court; Justice Mungeshwar Sahoo, former judge, Patna High Court; Justice Prakash Naik, former judge, Bombay High Court; Justice Shashikant Gupta, former judge, Allahabad High Court; Justice T Raja, former Acting Chief Justice, Madras High Court; and Justice Vivek Puri, former judge, High Court of Punjab and Haryana.
The Supreme Court’s Committee for the designation of Senior Advocates took the decision after a full court meeting held on August 14, 2024.
Besides, 39 lawyers were also designated as Senior Advocates, including 10 women lawyers.
