Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday filed a plea in the trial court, seeking bail in a money laundering case related to the now scrapped liquor policy. Arvind Kejriwal has sought both regular bail and interim bail in the case.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of the Rouse Avenue Court issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate, and asked the investigation agency to file a response within Saturday.
Meanwhile on Wednesday, the Supreme Court said it will not hear Kejriwal’s request for a seven day extension of his interim bail in the liquor policy case. The court registry refused to accept the application, mentioning that since Kejriwal was given the liberty to move the trial court for regular bail, the plea was not maintainable.
The Delhi Chief Minister had sought a seven-day extension to his interim bail, set to expire on June 1, on medical grounds. In the bail plea, Arvind Kejriwal said that unexplained weight loss is a symptom of life-threatening diseases, and his health condition is partly attributable to the callous behaviour of the jail authorities. He mentioned that another week of bail will allow him to take stock of health complications.
Arvind Kejriwal walked out of Tihar jail on May 10 after the Supreme Court granted him interim bail in the liquor policy case. He has been asked to surrender by June 2, two days before the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha polls is to be held. He was arrested on March 21 by the ED after questioning at his residence in Delhi’s Civil Lines area.
