Calcutta High Court refuses urgent hearing to Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan

The Calcutta High Court has refused to give an urgent hearing to the matter of Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan who was arrested by the West Bengal police late last night.

Trinamool Congress leader Shikh Shahjahan who was arrested last night by the West Bengal police after he was recently accused of sexual assault and land-grabbing in Sandeshkhali village.

The lawyer of Shahjahan’s appeared before a bench led by Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam today and attempted to mention of the matter.

The counsel for the Trinamool congress leader expressed concern over certain critical observations which were made earlier by the Court against Shahjahan, days before his arrest by the State police.

Chief Justice Sivagnanam alluded how the TMC strongman had been absconding in the days leading to his arrest.

The lawyer then pointed out that his anticipatory bail plea was pending when Shahjahan was arrested.

The Chief Justice remarked that Shahjahan has some 43 cases against him. Mind you, now for the next 10 years this man will keep you busy. You will have to handle all his cases till the next 10 years at least .

The lawyer, in turn, urged the bench led by the Chief Justice to hear his matter.

The counsel stated that the anticipatory bail was rejected for his client and he couldnt mention now before the regular bench (of the High Court).

The Court, however, indicated that it was not inclined to hear the matter today.

The Chief Justic said to Come on Monday.

The Trinamool leader was arrest by the West Bengal police came hours after the High Court clarified that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) were also at liberty to arrest the absconding TMC leader, who is also said to have close ties to an accused in a ration scam case.
