The Delhi High Court will hear on Friday, a petition filed by senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia seeking bail in the two cases registered against him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for his alleged involvement in the Delhi liquor policy scam case.
Earlier on April 30, a Delhi court had dismissed his bail plea in both the cases leading to the present plea before the High Court.
Sisodia’s plea was mentioned for urgent hearing today but the High Court listed it for hearing on May 3.
Sisodia has been in custody since February 26, 2023. He is being probed by both the CBI and the ED in relation to the Delhi excise policy case.
The case involves allegations that Delhi government officials had connived to grant liquor licenses to certain traders in exchange for bribes. The accused officials are alleged to have tweaked the excise policy to benefit certain liquor sellers.
This was the second time that the trial court has rejected Sisodia’s bail petitions. His first bail plea in the CBI case was rejected on March 31, 2023. On April 28, 2023 the trial court rejected his bail application in the ED case.
The Delhi High Court upheld the trial court orders and the same was upheld by the Supreme Court as well in October 2023.
He then moved a second round of bail pleas before the trial court which came to be dismissed earlier this week.
