The Supreme Court of India has been approached by the Uttar Pradesh government in a plea made by the Mukhtar Ansari for shifting gangster-politician in Banda jail to a state ruled by a party other than the BJP.
A bench comprising of Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice Sandeep Mehta stated that the matter cannot be considered till amendment is made in the prayers.
The court, however, allowed the son of the politician Ansari to amend his prayer in the writ petition.
Kapil Sibal who appeared for Umar Ansari, immediately agreed to amend the prayers and requested the court to grant time for it.
Sibal submitted the petitioner’s father was an accused in the murder case of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai. All the accused were acquitted in the case. Out of eight accused, four have already been shot down.
The court has agreed to hear the matter for consideration on Friday.
