The Supreme Court will hear the plea by the Telangana Congress President Revanth Reddy on January 5, 2024 in the case pertaining to plea for closure of cash-for-votes case which happened in 2005,which held him as an accused.
A bench comprising of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice SVN Bhatti passed an order to this effect today.
It is very important to note that Revanth Reddy is destined to be the next Telangana CM,post the recent win by Congress party in the State assembly elections.
Revanth Reddy defeating its nearest rival Bharat Rashtra Samithi.
In the year 2021,the top court had asked the Government of Telangana to express its views in the matter and stayed the trial against Reddy.
The matter was last listed in September 2021 before it came up for hearing today.
The Telangana Congress leader Reddy stands accused by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for paying ₹50 lakh cash to an independent member of legislative council (MLC) to vote in favour of a Telugu Desam Party nominee in 2015 MLC polls in Telangana.
The Congress leader had allegedly promised the MLC concerned another ₹5 crore after the voting.
